District Attorney’s Office
The Waldo County District Attorney’s office is dedicated to providing a voice to victims of crime. Through zealous prosecution of violent crime, including domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault, the prosecutors in Waldo County strive to protect their community and hold offenders accountable for their crimes. Victim Witness Advocates work tirelessly to support and guide victims through the court process, acting as the liaison between victims and prosecutors, while support staff keep the office running efficiently day in and day out.
The DA’s office work closely with law enforcement, Maine Pre-trial services, as well as the Restorative Justice Project of the Midcoast and a new partnership with Maine Health Equity Alliance to divert and deflect individuals with substance use disorder, mental illness and chronic homelessness into treatment and services, instead of jail and prison, for non-violent crimes. Restorative Justice Project, though a separate and distinct organization, have become integral to the criminal justice process in Waldo County, as they facilitate victims and effected parties in addressing offenders, while crafting reparative agreements that ensure restitution and the regaining of security and trust for the victim, and community service, gainful employment or educational attainment, and treatment of the offender in many non-violent matters that come through the DA’s office.
