The County of Waldo, which is located in the State of Maine,United States of America, was incorporated in 1827. It covers an area of approximately 724 miles. The County of Waldo consists of 25 towns and the City of Belfast. The City of Belfast serves as the county seat or shire. The towns are: Belmont, Brooks, Burnham, Frankfort, Freedom, Islesboro, Jackson, Knox, Liberty, Lincolnville, Monroe, Montville, Morrill, Northport, Palermo, Prospect, Searsmont, Searsport, Stockton, Springs, Swanville, Thorndike, Troy, Unity, Waldo and Winterport.
The County is pleased to present the video, entitled “How County Government Works – Waldo County, Maine!”, to explain the basic operations of each of its Departments and Offices. In addition please use this website for more detailed information.
It should be noted that in the State of Maine, County Government does not control permitting or zoning. Permitting and zoning is handled by each municipality. Please use the links in the paragraph above for further information regarding the local municipality in question. In the case of the Unorganized Territories, please contact LUPC (Land Use Planning Commissioner) for permit and zoning questions.
The County of Waldo does not enlist the services of taxpayer-funded lobbyists. If lobbyists are hired in the future, the County of Waldo will list that public information.
