Corrections Division

The Corrections division books more than a thousand prisoners a year at the 72-hour holding facility in Belfast. Many of those prisoners will make bail, and those who do not are transferred to the Somerset County Jail to serve their sentence.

The Corrections Division also provides services to the residents at the Maine Coastal Regional Re-Entry Center. These prisoners are nearing the end of their term of incarceration. Our many programs assist them with their integration back into society as productive and contributing citizens.

In addition, The Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center has been undergoing the process to become compliant with The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) passed by congress and signed into law by President Bush in 2003. This process ensures the effectiveness of its sexual abuse prevention, detection, response and training policies to eliminate, reduce and prevent sexual abuse and sexual harrassment in correctional facilities across the country. For further information select the PREA link below to see the various standards and reports submitted in this regard.
